Early Italian basso continuo, a synthesis of accompanying practices of the late renaissance

Based on an overview on the most important sources (Ortiz, Viadana, Agazzari, Bianciardi, Praetorius) and illustrated by example compositions, the participants will have the possibility to experiment with the rich variety of improvised and written out accompaniment in the music of the late renaissance and the early baroque.
