Thoroughbass Treaty by Guiseppe Dol (mid 18th)
Recently, a treaty on thoroughbass in two volumes from the middle of the
18th century by Giuseppe Dol has been discovered amongst a collection
of Italian manuscripts which are to be found in the library o the
Conservatory of Geneva.
The instructions are very extensive and thoroughly made, with many partimenti
as examples and instructions how to improvise pieces on keyboard instruments.
Little is known about Giuseppe Dol.
Born in Germany (Joseph Doll) he was successor of F. Durante as organist
in Naples.
In several letters he is mentioned as il Dol (the
Doll) which shows that he must have been well known in Naples at his time.
He was serving as "local contact" for Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart when
they came first time to Naples in 1769.
Here, some examples are given.
A full edition is planed.

The second volume contains sonatas for harpsichord
by Leonardo Leo, noted in partimento form and sonatas for two violoncellos.
